Nice to meet you!
My name is Korie Beth Brown, and I’m a yoga teacher. I’m also 59, short, round, and part of the starry sky of yoga. I believe that each of us adds our own unique part to the whole, and that everyone — every body, every mind, every soul — is needed to create effective change in the world.
Since 2017, I’ve taught at the Cancer Support Community in Pasadena, California. I have also taught the yoga section of the Return to Wellness workshop at the City of Hope in Duarte, California. Working with cancer warriors has been a unique experience that has helped me to see beyond the standard stereotype of yoga. My job as a teacher is to make each pose available to each student, and then to lead us all while we make that pose together yet homogenously. Some of my students can’t lift their arms over their shoulders; some can’t hold themselves up in a standard Down Dog. Their yoga is nonetheless powerful and important, and I am there to encourage and provide a safe space for experimentation and practice.
As I begin this new venture, I send gratitude and love to my primary teachers: Rene Quenell, Addie deHilster, and Jivana Heyman. I send the same to the people I have met and continue to meet on my yoga journey, many of whom I will share with you in these pages.
